Written to be read.
Three documents, no maze. The summary on the dark page is the deal; the rest is the same deal in longhand.
Effective date set at launch. Until then this is the working draft, shown so you can hold us to it.
Before you upload anything, know this.
The six principles under everything below. If any clause anywhere seems to conflict with these, these win.
You own everything. Still. Always.
Uploading your book gives us a limited, revocable permission to operate your app, and nothing else. No copyright moves. No IP right transfers, ever.
Your book never trains anyone's model.
Your text lives in your app's own sealed library, used only to answer your readers. It is never fed into ours or anyone's foundation model, and our AI providers are barred from training on it.
The voice we build is yours too.
The character profile made from your pages is your property, not ours. If you leave, it leaves with you. We cannot keep it, license it, or earn from it after you pull it. There is no version of this where we monetize your character against your will.
Off means off, the moment you say so.
One click unpublishes your app instantly. Ask for deletion and your text and the derived voice are purged within 30 days, backups included.
The money is simple, and never exclusive.
Readers subscribe; you take your share (70% standard) every month. We earn only while you stay. Nothing here is exclusive: publish, sell, and license your work anywhere else, always.
Your readers stay protected, even from us and you.
Conversations are private. You see anonymized themes, never who asked what. We do not sell data or run ads, on any app, ever.
The Author Agreement
Between you (the author or rights holder) and Skreyta, an XR Ventures company. This is what you accept when you launch an app.
1. What you give us
You grant Skreyta a non-exclusive, revocable, limited license to host and process your uploaded work for exactly one purpose: building and operating your companion app, including showing short passages to your readers inside conversations. That is the entire grant. We receive no right to reproduce your work elsewhere, publish it, sublicense it, or use it to build anything other than your app.
2. What we may never do
- Use your work or your readers' conversations to train any general-purpose or foundation model, ours or anyone's. Our AI providers process conversations solely to generate replies and are contractually barred from training on them.
- Create derivative works beyond the app itself.
- Transfer or sublicense your work or your voice profile without your written consent.
- Keep operating or monetizing your app, your voice, or your characters after you turn them off.
3. Who owns the voice
The voice profile, character definitions, and everything else derived from your work belong to you. To whatever extent any right in them arises in us while we operate your app, we assign it to you. While this agreement is active you license those materials back to us solely to run your app. When it ends, our copy is deleted and yours goes with you, in a portable form.
4. What you promise us
You confirm you hold the rights you are licensing: you are the author or you control the relevant rights (for example through your publisher). We may ask you to verify your identity or your rights before launch or payout, and may suspend an app while a credible rights dispute is resolved.
5. Money
Readers pay the subscription price you set. You receive your revenue share (70% standard; other splits only as agreed in writing) paid monthly, minus payment-processor fees. We may change the platform share only prospectively, with 30 days' written notice, and never for revenue already earned; if you do not like a change, you may leave before it takes effect, with clause 6 honored in full.
6. Leaving
You may unpublish any app instantly, at any time, no reason needed. You may choose a graceful wind-down, where your voices close their conversations in character before going quiet. On request we delete your uploaded text and derived voice materials within 30 days, including from backups, and give you an export of your voice profile and the email list of readers who opted in to hear from you. Reader conversation archives are not part of the export; they belong to the readers.
7. Boundaries and safety
Your red-lines are enforced: topics you exclude stay excluded. We may decline to serve content that is unlawful or that targets real private individuals, and on made-for-kids apps the child-safety layer is not optional. Every voice discloses that it is an AI character when asked.
8. The boring but honest part
The service is provided as-is; we do not guarantee revenue. Neither of us is liable to the other for indirect or consequential damages, and our total liability is capped at the fees we earned from your app in the prior 12 months. This agreement is governed by the laws of the state named at signup. If any clause conflicts with the six principles above, the principles control.
Terms of Service
For readers using any Skreyta-powered app.
1. What this is
You are talking with an AI character or AI author voice, created from a book with its author's permission. It is not the real person, and it will say so if you ask. It is a companion to the book: for reflection, practice, and delight, not a substitute for professional medical, legal, or financial advice.
2. Your account and messages
Ten messages are free in each app. After that, a monthly subscription unlocks unlimited conversation; cancel any time and access runs to the end of the paid period. Billing is handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
3. Age
Apps are for readers 13 and up, unless an app is designated made-for-kids, in which case a parent or guardian manages access and the child-safety layer is always on.
4. Fair use of the service
Do not use an app to attempt to extract the book's full text, to harass, or to generate unlawful content. The books, voices, and characters remain the property of their authors; a subscription buys conversation, not rights.
5. Endings
Authors may close a channel or an entire app; where possible, voices say goodbye first and remaining paid time is refunded on request. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service.
Privacy Policy
One policy for every Skreyta app and for skreyta.com.
1. What we collect
Your conversations with a voice (to give it memory), your email if you choose to share it, and subscription status from Stripe. That is the list. No advertising trackers, no data brokers, no cross-app profiles.
2. What authors see
Anonymized themes only. An author learns that readers keep asking about grief or chapter twelve; an author never learns who asked what, and never reads your conversations.
3. What our AI providers see
Messages are processed by our AI providers solely to generate the reply, under terms that bar them from training on your conversations or retaining them beyond processing.
4. Children
On made-for-kids apps we do not collect personal information from children, conversations are not used to build any profile, and profiling features are disabled entirely. Guardians control phone-based channels.
5. Your controls
Ask and we will show you, export, or delete your data: hello@skreyta.com, answered within a day. Deleting your reader data removes your conversations everywhere within 30 days.
6. Changes
If this policy materially changes, every app shows a notice before the change applies. We will never change it to permit selling your data or training on authors' books; those two are constitutional.
